Architectural Interior Design Services

  • Architectural Interior Design for Contemporary and Period Properties

My extensive range of services has grown over the course of twenty-three years. From small beginnings, I began making bespoke cushions for a client who needed a short-term makeover. Little did I know that, twenty years later, I would be designing the entire interior of a seven-thousand-five-hundred-square-foot property for the same client.

From large-scale architectural installations to the smallest detail of a leather handle or a flush-fitting door, I pride myself on my seamless specification process and innovative, bespoke design, delivering beautiful quality and style for every project.

I transform spaces by using my experience to guide clients through each stage of the design process. In order to ensure authenticity and individuality within each project, bespoke pieces are sometimes the key to creating something truly special and to set a space singing. From concept to detailed design drawings, workshop visits to site installation, I aim to motivate and inspire.

Crafted in timber, metal, glass or stone, my passion for good design brings architectural concepts to life and furniture design that sits comfortably within its own space.

I can assist with internal architectural design for both new and historic buildings, combining exciting ways to reshape or deconstruct the footprint of an existing building, or to revolutionise floor plans for a new property, blending unexpected statements with practicality and wit. I have solid experience in new-build spatial layouts and historic property renovation, with the heart of the property at the forefront of my design awareness.

  • lighting to compliment the interior design of luxury homes

A home should be as captivating after dark as it is during the hours of daylight. Having worked on numerous projects using many specialist contractors during the course of the last twenty three years, naturally, I have picked up some techniques to create artful lighting. I am not a qualified lighting designer, but I am able to visualise how buildings can be transformed with lovely lighting.

All of my projects are designed with the addition of carefully placed light, to augment architectural features and decorative lighting, offer good task and ambient lighting and the best quality of light and light colour. I believe that good lighting should be subtle and discreet, creating layers of excitement within the spaces that benefit from layers of light after dark.

Light sources should not always be obvious within a space, and this is just how I intend it to be. The source of illumination is not the main attraction, but the point in the room at which the light lands is the place of expression, and what the design is all about. Whether it be a pool of light hitting a bouquet of flowers discretely setting the scene for a party, or gentle arcs of light illuminating a painting or objet on a wall, the unexpected, and creation of an element of drama is how lighting design can assist the interior design.

  • Joinery design for kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms, studies and living spaces

I have been designing spaces that include joinery for over twenty-three years. Styled to sit comfortably within an historic building or a contemporary space, I create luxury dressing rooms, cloakrooms, handrails for stairwells, bespoke doors and staircases, offices, bedroom joinery, and kitchen and bathroom storage.

The design stage is pivotal, and a fine example of beautiful design aligning with the style of a property was the wardrobe doors created for a project in Kent in 2019. I took inspiration from the detailing of a door on the ground floor of an historic property to create a very special wardrobe in the principal bedroom. The doors were reeded, with intricate designs scribed into the panels. Bringing the joinery firmly up to date was the inclusion of clever internal lighting using PIR (passive infrared sensor) technology.

Joinery that is intelligently designed for spaces requiring beautiful bespoke storage, furniture, or service areas is my speciality.

  • Thoughtfully designed kitchens combining craftsmanship and beautiful design for town houses, apartments, studios and country homes

The very first bespoke kitchen I designed was for a large room with high ceilings in a listed Georgian home. The space required careful consideration and it was important to respect the integrity of the building. Using a wall of low-level storage surrounding an Aga, I then framed the run with a tall floor to ceiling storage cupboard housing a breakfast and larder nook. This mirrored the original cupboard at the far end of the room, making the perfect combination for the traditional aesthetic and bespoke kitchen run.

Large or small, my kitchen concepts create a lifestyle - special spaces to cook, create memories, entertain and feel cocooned in comfort. Connecting the design to the property style is important to me, and I work with my client’s and suppliers to ensure the very best possible process.

  • Creating bathrooms with soul combining practical bathroom design with beautiful materials for spaces to offer peace and relaxation

I design quiet bathrooms with soul for the way my clients want to live. I know my detailing is the best, and I am proud of the beautiful spaces I have created for my clients’ projects.

I designed three bathrooms for one recent project ensuring that everything from space layouts, lighting, finishes selection, bathroom components and hardware was advised and selected according the brief for each bathroom. My clients required many site visits which were integral to the success of the bathrooms and required in order to ensure the client was totally happy with every decision right down to the paint colour and decorative lighting choice.

Sometimes, the combination of joinery within a bathroom design is so integral to the success of the space. I plan bathrooms from scratch, sometimes moving walls or borrowing space from other areas ensuring flexibility and the creation of a really beautiful place to enjoy bathing with a difference.

Details are very important, and I have tried and tested formulas to ensure nothing gets missed however large or small the bathroom project is.

  • Holistic interior design for Gym and Spa spaces in new builds and renovations

At the heart of my design philosophy is the belief that wellness begins with the experience of the space around you. I create mindful environments that inspire calm, focus, and restoration - spaces that not only serve a function, but also elevate the everyday into something truly exceptional.

In one of my most recent new build projects, I worked closely with contractors to develop an integrated design for a luxury swimming pool, steam room, and private gym. My involvement extended beyond aesthetics - I provided full design specifications, ensuring every detail on my plans aligned with the client's vision and the highest standards of quality and performance.

My specification and design service supports specialist contractors in delivering spa and wellness facilities. Whether designing a serene steam room, an indulgent sauna, or a state-of-the-art swimming pool, I take a holistic approach that brings together beauty, technical excellence, and practicality.

With a deep understanding of both design and function, I bring an unmatched level of insight into gym and fitness space creation. Having worked with some of the most respected names in gym equipment supply, and drawing on personal experience from a range of fitness disciplines, I ensure that every space I create is intuitive, inspiring, and grounded in quiet luxury.

  • Staircase design for new homes and refurbishment properties

Stairwells are never an afterthought, they are sculptural focal points, thoughtfully designed to elevate the character of a space whilst aligning with the architectural language of the home. I specialise in designing bespoke stairwell concepts that are not only functional, but serve as statement features linking not only spaces throughout the house, but material palettes, lighting and spatial flow.

A recent project, The New House in Hertfordshire, perfectly encapsulates our design philosophy. For this contemporary family home, I developed a stairwell concept that integrated seamlessly into the wider finishes and design scheme. The stairwell featured pale oak treads, selected to match all doors and floors on the upper living level - a cohesive detail that brings a sense of continuity throughout the property.

To soften the structural lines and provide subtle warmth, the walls were finished in alabastine paint selected for its understated aesthetic and soft texture. A hand crafted oak handrail, with concealed fixings, added an artisanal, yet minimal touch highlighting my commitment to precision detailing, whilst matching the floor selection

I introduced a corten steel façade along the stairwell to provide contrast when viewed from the hallway. The natural patina of corten brings a tactile, almost sculptural presence to the space adding drama.

Low level, hidden lighting completed the composition. Designed to be invisible by day and atmospheric by night, this lighting detail enhanced ambience in this double height space by illuminating each tread.

My stairwell concepts are tailored to each client’s home, aspirations and lifestyle. Whether you are renovating or building anew, I feel your stairwell should be more than a transitional space - a beautiful architectural highlight.

  • Fireplace design for modern home design across the south east, London and the home counties

The fireplace is often the heart of the home – a natural focal point that draws the eye and anchors the room. I believe the fireplace should be as thoughtfully designed and beautifully executed as the sofa that faces it. Whether you prefer a traditional open fire or a more contemporary enclosed wood-burning cassette, I approach every fireplace project with care, creativity, and precision.

My design process begins with a full understanding of the space. In many cases, I uncover original fireplaces hidden behind later alterations, restoring old chimney breasts and opening up chambers to create a sense of proportion and flow. When designing a fireplace surround, I consider the architecture of the room, the scale of the opening, and the materials that will complement the wider scheme – from limestone and marble to steel, concrete or hand-finished plaster.

Every element is specified in detail. From hearthstones to fire baskets, mantels to chimney linings, nothing is left to chance. It is my job to ensure that the fireplace not only looks beautiful but functions safely and efficiently, meeting all current building and environmental standards.

In one of my recent projects – showcased in the gallery of the new house on this website, I designed a custom fireplace that blends traditional proportions with modern clean lines, bringing warmth and elegance to the heart of the home. It is this balance between heritage and innovation that defines my approach.

Fireplaces can be bold statement pieces or subtle architectural features that gently ground the space. Whether you’re restoring a period property or building something entirely new, I am here to help you realise a fireplace that elevates your interior and enhances the way you live.

  • Bespoke joinery design for studies, libraries and home offices

My bespoke study spaces are designed with intention, aligning the style to the architecture or client brief. My concepts balance beautiful aesthetics with comfort and functionality making the best possible use of space for working from home. I have even incorporated a hidden safe room into a study design for a client.

Each project begins with an understanding of how my clients live and work. I take time to consider routines, the character of the property, and the atmosphere my clients want to achieve. Bespoke joinery is incorporated to maximise storage, reduce visual clutter, and provide a sense of order.

Whether you require a dedicated study, a multi-purpose space, or a discreet corner that integrates seamlessly into your living area, I design study’s that feel harmonious and tailored to your lifestyle.

Layout, materials, and ergonomics are the anchor to the process, thereafter layering lighting which is introduced to create both ambience and precision. I favour timeless, tactile natural materials like wood, stone, and linen, and metal and glass or mirror, to bring warmth and texture. Furniture is selected or designed with equal care, ensuring comfort for long hours of work without sacrificing elegance.

With many blending home and professional life, flexibility is essential. I create spaces that can adapt - perhaps allowing easy transition into a guest room expanding as your needs evolve, or functioning as a calming retreat outside working hours.

From the placement of a desk, to the flow of natural light, from the texture of the materials and fabrics, to the tone of finishes, each element is carefully considered to ensure an effortless, unique and timeless space.

I believe a home study is a place where work meets comfort, where design enriches daily life, and where elegance supports productivity.

    Bespoke metal work

Architectural metal work design for historic and contemporary homes

My bespoke metal work has been featured on BBC2’s Gardeners World. I am proud of my design which forms the main feature surrounding an internal swimming pool and was designed to be in keeping with the architectural style of a new seven thousand five hundred sq ft property for which I also designed all the internal areas. The house sits in a listed Japanese garden so this formed my inspiration for the design of the metal work.

My bespoke metal work designs have also been used to surround a wall of individual, bevelled glass panels in one of my clients’ dining rooms. I work closely with my makers, often small individual workshops producing bespoke pieces in all kinds of finishes for my clients.

Whether it is the base for a dining table or desk, a bench, some external architectural detailing, or a bespoke mirror surround, I can design and fabricate anything for my clients.

  • A centuries old technique for bespoke soft furnishings for old and new properties

I have expert installers for fabric walling, a technique that has been used for centuries to adorn walls for warmth and acoustic comfort. I work with specialist fitters for silk and grass paper wall coverings. My selection of wallpaper adorns James Martins’ TV studio. As the chef is famed for his love of classic cars and motorsports, I suggested a wallpaper design in British racing green.

Adding luxury and warmth to any room, the possibilities for these wall coverings are endless. I have supplied and fitted bespoke hand painted silk wallpaper by Fromental for a client requiring a room to be adored with branches of pale cherry blossom.

Large spaces can be acoustically challenging - fabric walling or grass paper are ideal ways to counter echoey environments.

  • Take a seat on my bespoke furniture designed as part of the interior design of projects for old and new properties

My sofas and chairs are made in the UK by accredited suppliers using the highest quality materials. Hand made solid beech frames support hand sprung upholstery specified in any style and fabric.

Often, the finishers have years of upholstery experience and take huge pride in their work. Clients love the flexibility my designs bring to their spaces. I designed a recent bespoke sofa, armchairs and ottoman to use in four different configurations for a cinema room.

  • Natural finishes for bespoke design - stone, timber, lime render and concrete

I select and specify every finish for my architectural projects. Natural finishes for the internal design of my projects is my passion, and all areas of the home are considered carefully to ensure continuity.

Wood, stone, metal and glass can be used in such diverse ways. Ensuring scale where it is required is also essential to getting the finishes for large spaces correct. I abut stone and timber seamlessly on floors to define areas, use glass where transparency through to other spaces is required, and wherever possible, the simplicity of the natural materials to compliment the space and create a quiet luxury.

The design for a stone floor is not simply about the colour of the stone, but the size of bespoke slab, if it is honed, polished, tumbled, etched, scant or sawn finish.

I have specified finishes for all architectural elements of new and existing properties including, bridges joining rooms, external architectural metal work, stairwells, fireplaces, swimming pools and steam rooms.

  • Curtains, upholstered furniture, cushions, headboards and fabric walling - the finishing touches to a bespoke interior design service

Soft furnishings bring an extra layer of beauty to a finished scheme helping to soften a room, making it cosy and inviting, comfortable and luxurious.

With so much experience designing and specifying bespoke soft furnishings, I have almost every detail covered. Over the years, I have specified countless bespoke rugs, headboards, cushions and curtains to order.

Very often the last items to be installed, it is always exciting to see months of work on the details of the specification for the soft furnishings finally come to site to be unloaded for installation. I work with the best makers and installers insuring beautiful finish and attention to every detail imaginable.

  • Art for contemporary and period properties

I have specified whole houses using old and found decorative antiques, and many antique finds for projects requiring a perfect piece to finish a room. Sourcing antiques is my love and can be an ideal way to add in a timeless, lived in aesthetic for a project requiring a lovely mix of old and new.
