Approach
Every project begins with a clear understanding of how the space needs to function, feel and support daily life.
My role is to guide clients through complex architectural interior decisions, ensuring the project develops in a considered and cohesive way, rather than relying on last minute decisions during construction.
Over more than twenty three years, I have developed a structured yet flexible design process that supports thoughtful outcomes and well resolved homes. The framework provides clarity on scope, timing and decision making, while allowing each project to respond to its context, architecture and the people who will live there.
1. Concept and Spatial Planning
Through drawings and exploration of spatial layouts, it is possible to see how the property can function at its best, considering flow, proportion and the relationship between each space. Consideration is given to how natural light moves through the space, helping to inform the layout and overall feel of the design.
This stage focuses on spatial planning and overall direction. Lighting design, technical layouts and furnishing selections are developed in later stages once the concept is agreed.
At the end of this stage, clients will have a clear and considered framework for how the home will be organised and experienced.
2. Design Development
Once the concept is agreed, the design is developed in greater detail.
This includes refining layouts, developing lighting and small power plans, and shaping the material palette and overall aesthetic direction. Joinery and key architectural elements are explored to ensure the design is both functional and cohesive.
This stage builds upon the agreed concept, allowing decisions to be tested and resolved before moving into technical detailing. The development of coordinated layouts also allows for accurate costing by contractors.
3. Technical Design and Coordination
Following design development, the project moves into technical resolution.
Detailed drawings are prepared to communicate the design intent, ensuring that all elements are clearly understood and aligned. Coordination with contractors and consultants takes place to maintain consistency between the design intent and what is delivered on site.
4. Furnishing and Installation
As the build progresses, the final components of the interior are introduced.
Furniture, decorative lighting, fabrics, art and accessories are selected to complement and complete the architectural framework established earlier in the process. Their placement is carefully considered to ensure the final result feels calm, cohesive and complete.”
Working Together
Each stage is clearly defined with a structured approach to reviews and decision making. Where additional input or scope is required, this is incorporated and agreed as the project evolves.
