A renovation of an Edwardian house which had fallen into disrepair has given a new lease of life to a fantastic building with high ceilings, huge windows and lovely proportions. Opening up the ground floor was integral to the refurbishment of the house to offer creative and versatile accommodation and a warm and eclectic aesthetic to an old house for modern living.

Decorative living room with a rustic wooden coffee table holding a green fern plant and decorative stones, a white sofa with pillows, a side table with a urn-shaped lamp, and green shutter-style window in the background.

Fireplaces, previously bricked over and forgotten, were reopened and cast iron surrounds from the period sourced from reclamation to reintroduce some of the lost period charm.

Sixteen UPVC windows and the front door were removed and replaced with timber to match the period of the property.

Each room was painstakingly restored and walls covered with layer upon layer of mismatched wallpaper were stripped and white washed, brightening tired spaces which had fallen victim to years of neglect.

Original features were retained, and floorboards found under decades of dust in the loft were used to replace boards smothered in orange varnish.  Polished concrete provided practical solution to flooring in the converted garage which was turned into a self contained studio apartment.
